Lovely Emily and Shane came to me in 2019 to help them plan their lovely marquee wedding at the stunning Barn Drift. They had already booked this unique dry hire venue and knew they needed help with the rest of their wedding plans, particularly as they would be requiring a marquee for their guest numbers. Barn Drift is a wonderful venue right on the North Norfolk coast, with luxurious accommodation and views of the salt marshes, fields and sea; it is certainly one that’s hard to beat in Norfolk. This was a wedding planned to be in 2020, but Covid had other plans! So working with this wonderful couple and their families for an extra year meant I really got to know them even better, and when their wedding finally did come around, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

An intimate wedding is classed as a small wedding with up to 30 guests. Other than that the rest is completely up to you and the same principles apply as if you were holding a larger wedding.

When it comes to marquee weddings, you have masses of choices! Broadly speaking, you get to choose everything, as it is a pop-up event space; everything is selected and chosen by you. This will start with the address your marquee will be installed at, go through to the timings of your day, the style of the marquee you wish to hire, the size of the marquee, the finish of the marquee, and all the fittings and fixtures within the marquee. In terms of your day, you get the maximum amount of choice with a marquee – there are far fewer restrictions on your wedding day than at any other style of venue. If you have set ideas and are struggling to find a bricks-and-mortar wedding venue that will provide it, then a marquee is probably going to fulfil your needs.

Not to mention the extra insects that heat attracts.

With a smaller guest list, there’s more opportunity to focus on the people, details and atmosphere that matter most, and to choose a setting that feels genuinely personal. Not every traditional wedding venue is ideally suited to a smaller celebration, so finding the right space can make a real difference to how the day feels. When the weather is changeable (ie most of the time), I also find that brides and grooms get a little worried about the 'what ifs' with the weather for their big day. I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to have contingency plans (multiple ones if necessary!) Contingency plans can relate to any aspect of your wedding, but for the purposes of this, I am just going to talk about the contingency plans relating to WET WEATHER!

Just a stunner of a mid-summer wedding. With an incredible line-up of suppliers, this was a true delight to work on. From the first chat we had I knew L and I would get along and work really well together and I was not wrong. Her vision for her day was spot-on, and I was able to help her achieve it with some inspiration sessions to focus her choices and planning time. The cheerful wedding design included a little bumblebee motif, mini bells (to echo the venue) tied with ribbons as favours, personalised poems for each guest and bright seasonal flowers.
